Director’s Statement

My work with professionals from many artistic disciplines and my love of cinema have given me great insight and passion for visual storytelling. The first time my wife Ingrid and I visited Camp Chesterfield, the home of Spiritualism in Indiana, we knew this place itself was a character with a story we wanted to tell. And we wanted to tell that story in a fun, entertaining and edifying feature film focused on Donald Keeler, the young man who tragically died at the Camp and whose portrait hangs in their gallery. While writing the GHOST FROM THE RIVER screenplay with Ingrid, I kept in mind the concept of the “Robert Rodriguez List,” which advocates making a list of things to which the filmmaker has access. I started my list by writing down the creative and talented people that I had successfully collaborated with over the years: producers, actors, musicians, cinematographers, audio technicians, editors, art directors, costumers. I listed the physical things that I had access to such as video cameras, lighting and audio gear, editing facilities, music studios, filming locations at the Camp. I’m excited about how my feature screenplay turned out. I believe that with the proper funding, we have the talent, technology, and expertise to make GHOST FROM THE RIVER a reality.

CO-PRODUCER

Jim Mitchell

Jim has been a creative collaborator with Director James Moriarty since the early 1980s, including a wide range of audio, video and stage projects. He is extremely pleased to be working again with James in a creative capacity, as well as employing his project management, business, and legal skills for a new major project. Jim has over 21 years of experience as a corporate environmental attorney, negotiating contracts and government settlements, and project managing large-scale transactions and site cleanups. Jim’s special talent is “herding cats” – i.e., his ability to understand and balance the diverse motivations and interests of multiple parties, maintaining focus and getting to a successful, cooperative meeting of the minds. Jim’s skill set complements and supports the rest of the creative team in the successful production and distribution of GHOST FROM THE RIVER.
